IV. Apus “The Bird-of-paradise” (2013)

IV. Apus “The Bird-of-paradise” (from “Starbirds”)

Apus, translating to “without feet” or “sunset”, is a relatively small and inconspicuous constellation in the southern sky. Representing the Bird-of-paradise – appreciated for their beautiful plumage by many cultures throughout human history – the piece evokes the ceaseless flight of the footless bird out from the sunset, longingly soaring into the stars.

Premiered on April 28, 2018 by Seulki Lee (cello) and Jared Beu (piano) at Jessen Auditorium, University of Texas at Austin.
