Tribal Style (2011)

Drumline Cadence
Approximate Duration: 1:10

“Tribal Style” was written for the McNeil High School Drumline on July 27, 2011 at 4:00 AM. It was the first day of the marching band’s Percussion Camp and I couldn’t sleep, so I decided to write a simple cadence for the drumline to eventually play. It was written for snares (including 2 soloist), quints, and 5 basses (with an 8 measure tonal part in the middle). The cadence features some actual tribal rhythms in the quints and basses and “tribal” playing techniques like striking the snare drums with your hands and stick clicks and was written to give even more variety to the MHS drumline cadences.
